France

Visiting the countryside of France provided new perspectives regarding nature, rural life, and economics where I explored the communes of Ferney-Voltaire and Gex. In this quiet, laid-back environment, I found myself immersed in nature and surrounded by the simplicities of the countryside.

Laid-back Lifestyle

In contrast to what is often thought of France, being glitzy and dazzling Paris, visiting the French countryside provided a new viewpoint. Almost every business in these communes were family-owned, small, and unique. The environment also contrasted in that it was full of lush nature, whether it be a pot of flowers or acres of fields in the background.

The concept of being self-sustaining and heavily relying on your community is extremely foreign to many parts of America, making my time in Ferney-Voltaire and Gex extremely enjoyable. Walks around the commune were a daily activity to pass the time, rather than spending time on electronics or lazing around on the couch. Appreciation for nature was deep in these communes and provided lessons that many other countries can learn from. I look forward to returning to France and visiting my family in the future!
